NANNIES

A Nanny is a professional caregiver directly focused on the welfare and well being of children, who provides a nurturing, safe, and stimulating environment for appropriate development to occur.  Nannies provide individual and experienced attention, caring, and activities to children in the comfort and safety of their own parent's home that offers many families a greater peace of mind than with daycare.  They are responsible for everything regarding the care, feeding, bathing, and other light domestic tasks relating to the children.  This may include doing the children’s laundry, keeping their play areas and rooms organized, providing meals, and cleaning up after the children.  It however, does not include heavier housework such as vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, etc.

They may also do shopping, run errands, and provide transportation for the children, either with a family car or in their own vehicle with mileage and gasoline reimbursement costs.

Full time Nannies are typically paid either a weekly or monthly salary and work 40-50 hours per week.  Part time Nannies however, are usually paid an hourly wage and typically work 15-35 hours per week.

GOVERNESS

A Governess is a full time caregiver who is also an educator.  They plan and implement objectives and goals for the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and development of children.  They have been formally and specifically trained to strategize and structure these child development areas within your family.  Governesses typically posess undergraduate or masters degrees in child development, education, pyschology, family studies, or other related fields.
